Trip to Inayawan Dumpsite/Landfill

I visited the Inayawan dumpsite/landfill through our learning visit activity in Young Minds Academy-3 and we also went to many areas here in cebu. Literally “Inayawan,” the name of the town means “rejected” and people actually live in the garbage by creating some makeshift Tents.

This may be a dumpsite - but hundreds of poor families have to live here too. It is a sad reflection that the Philippines, and its goverment (National & Local) have done so little or anything to help these poor people. In a recent news article which says that the site is already full, perhaps the solution is to locate another “Dumpsite” but rather adopt and apply new and innovative green technologies which are being adopted by countries that are environment conscious. It will be an expensive endeavor but at least it would benefit us all in the long run.

Most of us are in denial because most of us cebuanos know of these information/problems but we simply let it get in one ear and exits in the next ear, as if it does not concern us. Everybody has problems and bad times, but we must not sacrifice the good times for those bad times. In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing. The worst thing you can do is nothing.

There were children there too, they were excited and was full of energy. I guess it’s a rare sight for them to get visited. So if you think your life is miserable, or your job sucks, then simply think and put yourself in these peoples shoes. It really made me reflect and think on how blessed I am and how my daily problems were diminutive compared to theirs, if these people could smile, why can’t we? :P
